Hello from Victorian by the Sea!
This week we celebrate our first anniversary as Innkeepers of Victorian by the Sea.Victorian by the Sea, May 16, 2008, summer is comming!  Sincere thanks to you, our guests, who have shared our first year and the beauty of Midcoast Maine with us.

Summer is nearing and we’re eager to share the beauty of Maine with you once again.  The lupines, rhododendron and peonies are blooming in the front yard and the scent of flowers and grass mixed with sea breezes is indescribably wonderful.  We planted a small vegetable garden along with the blueberries this year and we’re looking forward to fresh herbs and vegetables to complement the breakfast offerings.  The local Farmers markets are in full swing, and, thanks to our neighbors, we have added organic eggs, fresh pork sausage and a mild goat’s cheese to the breakfast menus.  We have located a local Lincolnville fisherman who will provide fresh lobsters to you which you may boil in our pots.  Enjoy your own Lobster Fest at the Inn!

Pemaquid Point, Maine, view from base of the lighthouse May 25, 2009During the past couple of months, we had the opportunity to explore more of this beautiful state.  One of the sites we’re excited to recommend is a Maine coastal icon ? Pemaquid Point.  In addition to the lighthouse, this scenic area features stunning granite outcroppings shaped thousands of years ago.  I was the scene of many shipwrecks over the centuries.  When you finally tear yourself away from the dramatic views, stop in at the museum housing exhibits on the history of the local fishing and lobstering industries, as well as pictures of all the lighthouses on the Maine coast.

Check out what’s happening there right now on the Pemaquid Point Association’s Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, webcam is to the left of lighthouse.webcam.

Back home in the Camden-Rockport-Lincolnville area, we’re watching the schooners move out of their winter dry docks and into surrounding seaports. A schooner ride should definitely be on your list of things-to-do when plan your visit! Two we recommend are Schooner Yacht Heron and Schooner Surprise.  The Yacht Heron offers lighthouse and wildlife focused trips, too.   Early spring guests have also enjoyed renting kayaks from our neighbor, Ducktrap Kayaks, and exploring nearby Mugunticook Lake.  We now provide picnic lunches for your outdoor adventures.  Ask about them when making your reservation.

We also wanted you to know that we now have a two-room furnished apartment with a galley kitchen for rent.  The apartment, which accommodates four, rents for $160/night, or $700/week.  Breakfast is not included in this price, but may be arranged for an additional $15.00 per person.  The apartment is ideal for those who may wish a lighter breakfast, or who prefer to prepare some of their own meals as the kitchen is fully equipped.

For fans of the Sawyer Suite, you will be interested to know that it was redecorated this past winter and we think you will find it more comfortable and inviting than ever.

rachel Carson Salt Pond, Pemaquid Point, Maine May 6, 2009

On your way to Pemaquid Point, plan to stop at the Rachel Carson Salt Pond Preserve, set aside by the Nature Conservancy in1966. Research for some of Carson's books was done on the shore of Maine's Muscongus Bay at this tide pool near the southeastern tip of the Pemaquid Peninsula.  Carson’s Silent Spring (1962) was the first book to expose the impact of pesticides on nature and marked the onset of public consciousness of the environmental crisis.

Make your plans now for your Maine holiday.  It looks like it’s going to be a beautiful summer.   Call 800 382.9817 or reserve online NOW.
